I had an awesome time hanging out with the Coppola Winery crew at their VIP "Diamond On The Diamond" event at the Virgin America Lounge inside AT&T Park.
One of my favorite things to do is to be able to find tasty wines that don't compromise quality OR break the bank. The 2012 release of their "Diamond" collection accomplishes all that! Oh...and there was a Giants game going on.
Here is a list of the wines I sampled(it was a long day). BEFORE you start reading, I think it's important to note that ALL of these wines in this collection, some not listed here (with the exception of the Claret) retail for $20 and under. You are WELCOME in advance :)
Diamond Collection Pinot Grigio: Crisp, refreshing and perfect for a warm sunny day(of Giant's baseball!). I started with this one and caught citrus on the nose and green apple/grapefruit on the palette.
Diamond Collection Sauvignon Blanc: Nice and acidic(Sav Blanc is a personal fav anyway so...this was awesome)with a kind of grassy/tropical fruit vibe. IE: could drink all day.
Diamond Collection Chardonnay: This one got "Best In Class" at the SF Chronicle Wine Competition. Not super-buttery or acidic but nicely balanced. Apple, melon and a vanilla finish round this one out.
Diamond Collection Red Blend: I was way too enamored with this wine but that's a different story. I LOVE blends and this one consists of Syrah, Petite Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Zinfandel. Enough said.
Diamond Collection Merlot: Two of my favorite flavor profiles are featured in this wine, berries and leather with smooth tannins to match. This is the one I bring to that steak dinner.
Diamond Collection Cabernet Sauvignon: Spicy and Oaky: sometimes these are the only two reasons I need to drink a bottle of wine. Another home run.
