A 93-year-old World War II veteran has found a new home with a couple in Northern California after wildfires forced him to evacuate his home in Paradise. Lee Brundige doesn’t even know if his home is still standing because the town of Paradise was pretty much wiped off the map, but after he met Tracy Grant while she was passing out burgers to evacuees, she insisted he come home with her.
Grant says she invited Brundige to come stay with her and her boyfriend when they first met, but he told her, “No, my lady days are long gone.” But she didn’t give up and eventually convinced him to come stay at their place and the couple says he’s welcome to stay as long as he wants. They say they’ve “adopted” him.
“These people are angels to me,” Brundige says. “They bought me clothes and everything. I don’t know how I’m going to thank them, but I’m going to try.”
