The movie "That Thing You Do" is in my top 5 for sure. Lenny, played by Steve Zahn, not only steals the show for me, but made me a fan of him as an actor.
if you didn't know, the four main characters in the movie didn't actually sing "That Thing You Do", or even my favorite, "Dance With Me Tonight". Those were in fact sung by the band 'Fountains of Wayne', who were famous for their hit "Stacy's Mom".
Unfortunately Fountains Of Wayne lead singer, Adam Schlesinger, who wrote the song "That Thing You Do", passed on April 1st of this year, due to complications from COVID-19. Schlesinger also wrote song for the movies 'Something About Mary", "Ice Age", Two Weeks Notice", and a bunch more.
As Pitchfork reports, this Friday, April 17th at 4pm PT, the whole band, Guy, Jimmy, Lenny, and 'The bass player' (since he was never officially given a name in the movie), along with cast member Liv Tyler, and more, will do a watch party on YouTube, where we can all watch the movie together, and they'll do commentary during it, all to raise money for the MusiCares COVID-19 relief Fund. 'The Bass Player' actor, Ethan Embry, posted the link in his Instagram bio.
Also, since alot of the movie was filmed in SoCal, including North Hollywood, Pomona Fairplex, and Orange, I found a cool video that shows you some of those locations, and how they look now.
