These aren't cities we hear talked about very often in the "skyrocketing rent" discussion but, according to Mercury News analysis of a new Zumper report, these are the cities where rent is going up the most:
- Mountain View - average 1 bedroom is $3,110 (up 15.6% year-over year)
- Petaluma - average 1 bedroom is $2,180 (up 14.7% year-over-year)
- Walnut Creek - average 1 bedroom is $2,390 (up 12.2% year-over-year)
On the other side of the coin, here are the cities where rent has gone down the most:
- Oakland - average 1 bedroom is $1,930 (down 12.7% year-over-year)
- Berkeley - average 1 bedroom is $2,500 (down 12.3% year-over-year)
- South San Francisco - average 1 bedroom is $2,070 (down 8.8% year-over-year)
In case you're wondering, the statewide average for a one bedroom apartment is $1,699/month.
