More than 6,000 acres will be yours to roam as of December 1.
OpenSpace.org offers a tease of what we can look forward to following the opening of Lower La Honda Creek:
“Explore the rolling grassland ridges of this working cattle ranch. As the wind whistles past, look overhead - raptors can usually be seen soaring on the updrafts above. A variety of wildlife make their homes here, including coyotes, deer, and bobcats.”
A Mercury News article sums up a bit of the location’s history:
"For the past 175 years, it’s been a Mexican land grant, a dairy farm, a hideout for members of Jesse James’ outlaw gang, an oil field, a redwood logging mill, a cattle ranch and a retreat for heirs to the Weyerhaeuser lumber and Folgers coffee fortunes."
