WHOA: San Diego's surf is glowing neon blue

Algae filled with bioluminescent phytoplankton has been lighting up the ocean from La Jolla to Encinitas this week in the San Diego area.

The waves look like they are glowing neon blue. It's quite the amazing sight!

It's a stretch of about 18 miles. The micro-organisms light up along the face of the wave when it crashes near the shore. Scientists can't predict when this will occur and they really don't fully understand the dynamics.

But it sure is amazing!
