2018 National Blue Ribbon Schools announced - 7 are in the Bay Area

In 2017, the Bay Area was home to 3 Blue Ribbon schools. This year, that number more than doubled!

Here are the schools:

  • Cupertino's Lawson Middle School
  • Fremont's John Gomes Elementary
  • Fremont's William Hopkins Junior High
  • Redwood City's North Star Academy (grades 3-8)
  • San Jose's Joaquin Miller Middle School
  • Saratoga's Argonaut Elementary
  • Saratoga's Redwood Middle School

As reported by the East Bay Times:

All seven of the Bay Area schools were awarded for overall achievement, for having students that rank in the top 15 percent of achievement in English and mathematics in the state, according to the U.S. Department of Education website.
