Bay Area fire department unveils its first all-electric fire truck

Fire departments around the world will be watching to see how this goes, I'm sure!

Menlo Park firefighters are about to be on the cutting edge of fire truck technology with the purchase of an all-electric fire truck which, according to the Mercury News, could be "a worldwide first."

Here's more from the Merc's reporting:

The electric engine is a concept five years in the making and the torque and speed alone have Menlo Park firefighters itching to test it out.
Equipped with a redundant battery system and small booster motor, the truck has the potential to be the most versatile apparatus in the Peninsula fire department’s fleet.
