A movie based in the Bay Area, that won a generation of fans around the world, is now coming to Broadway and in the starring role will be 37 year-old Rob McClure.
While we all acknowledge that no one could ever replicate the magic Robin Williams brought to the role, it looks like McClure will bring his own bit of flare:
Here's what the actor told Entertainment Weekly in a statement about the costume change process:
I’ve got an entire Indianapolis 500 pit crew back there. My dressers and make-up team are superheroes. One of the most thrilling differences between the movie and the Broadway show is that we are doing this in real time. When Daniel Hillard runs into the other room and emerges as everyone’s favorite Scottish nanny 18 seconds later, our director can’t yell cut and send me to a trailer for five hours. We’ve got 18 seconds. I can feel the audience sweating with me! 'IS HE GONNA MAKE IT?!?' The stakes are so high! It makes for electrifying theatre.
In case you're wondering what Rob McClure looks like when NOT in his Mrs. Doubtfire ensemble, here's a pic of him snapped on a New York City red carpet back in 2013:
