This was, hands-down, my FAVORITE part of the Emmy's last night. (And go figure it had NOTHING to do with the actual awards!) Glen Weiss not only won the Emmy for outstanding directing for a variety special, but he also proposed to his girlfriend, Jan Svendsen — a first in Primetime Emmy Awards history. It was bittersweet as he mentioned in his speech that his mother passed away 2 weeks ago.
"Part of my heart is broken. I don’t think it will ever be repaired. But she’s in me and she always will be,” he said. He then went on, referencing his girlfriend as the "sunshine" in his life", saying,
"And Mom was right, don’t ever let go of your sunshine. You wonder why I don’t like to call you my girlfriend? Because I want to call you my wife.”
AWWWWWW!!! Just watch!! Honestly this was the best part of the Emmy's. So authentic and adorable. And super cool that it's an Emmy's first too!
