Shakira Singing Green Day Is The Cover We Didn't Know We Needed

Yes, you read that headline right: Over the weekend, Shakira shared a video on Twitter that showcases her pipes and apparent Green Day fandom. In the short clip, the singer gives a pop spin to the trio's iconic Dookie track "Basket Case" while her producer strums an acoustic guitar in the studio. "Me, being a basket case with my producer…" she captioned the post. Very fitting.

Could this be a hint of what to expect during Shakira's Super Bowl halftime set in February? Because we are all for a Green Day cameo.

Frontman Billie Joe Armstrong replied to the singer's video saying, “I love this” while bassist Mike Dirnt commented the Colombian slang for “cool”, “Bacano!”

Both Shakira and Green Day have big things planned for 2020. The pop star will be sharing the Super Bowl stage with Jennifer Lopez (and perhaps some other guests) at Miami's Hard Rock Stadium on February 2, 2020, while the band is gearing up to release a new album, Father of All..., on February 9, 2020 (pre-order it here). After their 13th album drops, Billie Joe Armstrong and company will switch into tour gear and prep for their massive Hella Mega Tour with Fall Out Boy and Weezer in the summer.
