Former President Joe Biden and his wife, former First Lady Dr. Jill Biden, attended the opening night of the Broadway show Othello on Sunday (March 23), their first time spotted in Manhattan since leaving the White House in January, the New York Post reports.

The couple was among the VIPs in attendance for the Shakespeare tragedy starring Academy Award winner Denzel Washington and Academy Award nominee Jake Gyllenhaal, having been spotted backstage in photos with both actors, as well as other cast and crew members, Sunday night. The former first lady, who wore a shimmering teal blue dress, later shared a photo of herself and her husband, who donned a tuxedo, with the caption, "Date night!" on her Instagram account.

“Riveting… brilliant … BRAVO!” she wrote alongside a photo of them posing with the cast and crew on stage prior to the curtain dropping on her Instagram Story.

The couple's public appearance came days after reports that they offered to help boost the Democratic Party's ailing image and fundraising following President Donald Trump's victory over former Vice President Kamala Harris in November. The Bidens reportedly met with newly elected Democratic National Committee chairman Ken Martin to discuss potentially revamping campaigning efforts, which was met with skepticism from an anonymous former employees.

“Joe Biden should enjoy retirement at the beach in Rehoboth,” one Biden alum told the New York Post last week. “No voter wants to hear from him. He is delusional and arrogant to think that he can be a value add to the Democratic Party. We need to move on from the era of Joe Biden and embrace new, younger leadership.”

“The Bidens are still living in an alternative universe that revolves only around them,” another former senior White House adviser said of Biden’s offer via the New York Post.
