Los Angeles has encountered many earthquakes and Mayor Eric Garcetti wants us to be prepared and ready for the next big one!
An app called ShakeAlertLA has been revealed after being in the works for years.
It was oversaw by Mayor Eric Garcetti and it is designed to work with the U.S. Geological Survey’s earthquake early warning system.
It's meant to give users seconds and possibly tens of seconds before the shaking from a distant earthquake comes to the user’s location.
The app says that "ShakeAlertLA sends you information when a 5.0 or greater earthquake happens in Los Angeles County, often before you feel shaking."
Mayor Garcetti is scheduled to make an official announcement tomorrow (1/3), but he tweeted that the app is available now.
The app is built under a contract with AT&T and is now available for Android and Apple users.
