TSA Is Phasing Out Pointy-Eared Dogs!

It's not an unusual sight to see different breeds of dogs working as an airport screening dog.

Well it looks like Transportation Security Administration is looking to phase out dogs with with pointy ears like German Shepherds.

TSA Administrator David Pekoske told the Washington Examiner

"We've made a conscious effort in TSA to use floppy ear dogs. We find the passenger acceptance of floppy ear dogs is just better. It presents just a little bit less of a concern. Doesn't scare children."

The Washington Examiner also reported that in the last year 80 percent of dogs purchased by TSA were: Labrador retrievers, German short-haired pointers, wirehaired pointers, Vizslas and golden retrievers.

All have these dogs have droopy ears.

However, TSA isn't rejecting all pointy eared dogs like German Shepherds and Belgian Malinois.

Those dogs can still get the job if the dog scores high on health, odor detection, socialization and disposition.

Dogs with pointy ears would get a job that has less interaction with travelers like baggage domb detection.

The dogs that screen passengers are more likely to have floppy ears.

What do you think about this?
