A Hawaii Lawmaker Proposes A Bill To Make The Legal Smoking Age 100!

Most states have the smoking age set as 18, while 6 states including Hawaii have it set at 21 years old.

Well one Hawaii lawmaker has proposed a bill to make the legal smoking age 100 years old!

Rep. Richard Creagan's new bill has a whole plan for the smoking age.

It will start with being the age of 30 to purchase cigarettes in 2020, 40 in 2021, 50 in 2022, 60 in 2023, and then it jumps to 100 in 2024.

Rep. Richard Creagan is also an emergency room doctor and he said, "basically we essentially have a group who are heavily addicted in my view, enslaved by a ridiculously bad industry, which has enslaved them by designing a cigarette that is highly addictive, know that it's highly lethal and it is."

He continued saying:

This is more lethal, more dangerous than any prescription drug and i'ts more addicting. We as legislators have a duty to do things to save people's lives. If we don't ban cigarettes, we are killing people.

This bill would only include cigarettes and doesn't apply to e-cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco.

This proposition is expected to be presented to the House Health Committee in a few days.
