If you live in California and already got your Real ID, you'll have to provide a second proof of address because the DMV failed to ask for it.
The Department of Homeland Security sent a letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom informing him that the DMV didn't follow document processing federal guidelines.
The DMV reports that 3.4 Million Californians have obtained their Real ID's and the department plans on contacting them to provide second proof of adddress.
If you're one of those people, you're able to make up the requirement by returning a letter from the DMV by mail, visit a field office, or check online.
