This is such a great story. Being a comedian, this hit close to home as ALL of my current gigs have been 100% cancelled, or rescheduled. It's a weird place to be if you're an entertainer. I'm VERY fortunate as I still have my radio job, but many people don't have a job at all, let alone one they can "fall back on." This was a really cool and easy way for headlining comedians such as Whitney Cummings, Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle and many more to donate their talents, virtually, and raise money for friends of theirs who are currently struggling. They raised over $100K!
They teamed up with The world famous Comedy Store on Sunset Blvd for a series of videos....the one below features Neil Brennan, Dave Chappelle, Donald Rawlings and Bill Burr. (They've been doing live broadcasts on Tuesday nights, but all episodes are on Youtube.) Audiences would watch live, and so far have donated over $100K to the Comedy Store Family Fund, going directly to comedians and employees. (WARNING: Obviously, swearing is in the video below.)
Way to go!! I'm doing my first comedy "gig" next weekend via Zoom....45 minutes for a private group. Wish me luck! (Or a link to insert audience sound effects)
