This is such a wonderful story on so many levels! Satchel Smith is a 21-year-old employee of Homewood Suites in Beaumont, Texas. Recently, he pulled a 32-HOUR shift running an entire hotel and it's 90 stranded guests during Tropical Storm Imelda. He answered phones, cooked, did dishes, and laundry- all while losing his OWN car due to flooding.
Well, last week he was surprised by City officials with a NEW car- a 2013 Honda Hybrid- for his hard work, professionalism, and grace. Smith said, "It was overwhelming....I didn't expect anything for what I did. I'm truly thankful."
