SF School Wants To House Homeless Children and Their Families

Buena Vista Horace Mann Community School in San Francisco's Mission District, teachers and administrators explain dozens of their students are struggling through homelessness.  

"We have students sleeping in cars, asking different relatives if they can sleep on their couch. They are sleeping in BART stations and tents," Claudia DeLarios Moran, the vice-principal said.

The school has proposed an idea to help give these kids some security to city leaders... They  would turn the gymnasium into an overnight shelter for at least some of the school's approximately 60 homeless children and their families. The city is looking into it, they estimated it costing $900,000. If all the plans fall into place sources say the shelter should be open in October.
