We've all thought at some point while doing our laundry, "did the washer eat my sock", and now we know we aren't crazy, sometimes IT DOES! James Darmstadt, a quality engineer at GE Appliances says this is absolutely possible. "In the case pictured, he says the socks most likely slipped through a hole in the gasket — that thick, rubber ring on front-loading washers that creates a tight seal when the door closes.when the machine is spinning at very high speeds, socks could slip through a hole or slit in the gasket and get trapped in the space below the metal washing basket." Maybe this is where all the socks go...
