So, I don't know if you're like me, but I like my Oscars in "snippets." Sometimes I don't want to wait through the long speeches....especially considering I'm HORRIBLE about being in the "know" of current movies! That being said, I do LOVE the big surprise of the night...."Parasite", a foreign language film, won it's first Oscar for Best Picture. Not only that, but it also won Best Director (Bong Joon-Ho) and Best Original Screenplay. So, so cool and a HUGE moment in history. Bong Joon-Ho's speech for Best Director was hilarious and so humble. (He basically fan-girled out over Martin Scorsese and Quentin Tarantino.)
Among the other main categories, Joaquin Phoenix won Best Actor for Joker, Renee Zellwegger won Best Actress for Judy; Brad Pitt won Best Supporting Actor for Once Upon A Time In Hollywood and Laura Dern won Best Supporting Actress in Marriage Story. Full list of winners here.
I personally loved the evening starting off with Steve Martin and Chris Rock....even though they didn't host the show (there was no official host) they made a great joke saying, "We have both hosted this show in the past and agree that this is an incredible demotion." Idina Menzel wowed the crowd with her new hit, "Into The Unknown" from Frozen 2, and Billie Eilish performed during the "2020 In Memorandum" moment. (Also, check out the other video of her looking confused during Kristin Wiig and Maya Rudolph's bit. This is where all the memes came from!
Eminem had a surprise performance of "Lose Yourself".....and fun fact, that song won Best Original song in 2003. At the time, he didn't show up at the Oscars. Last night, post show, he tweeted, "Look if you had one shot....one opportunity....thanks for having me. Sorry it took me 18 years to get here."
